Random Musings

Do you know what I've noticed since regaining singlehood? My status as 'friend' has changed.

Until February, I was "Jaime of Mike and Jaime." One half of a couple. Available for all "couple" activities and a more likely prospect to hang out with my other couple friends. My single friends knew that my available time was limited so we saw each other a little less.

Now, I'm single again. My couple friends still do couple things, but we can only hang out in a big group. No one likes a third wheel. My single friends, having gotten so used to my being unavailable, have forgotten that I am around. So what happens then? I end up sitting at home alone with a bottle of wine, on a Saturday night of a three day weekend because everyone already has plans.

Is it possible that I'm to blame for this? Yes, possibly. Am I alienating myself from everyone? Yes, it's possible. It's also possible that with all of the weddings and babies and engagements going on, with promotions and new relationships blooming, I have very little going on worth talking about. And it's really hard to stand out. I am feeling very Miranda these days, surrounded by a world of Charlottes, Samanthas and Carries. Only much more broke. :(

One of the other things I've noticed is how much harder it is to find something to do things with. I really think that people need one person, whether girl or boy, sleeping with them or just platonic, that they can rely on to just do things with. So, here's the deal - I'm going to list all the things I'd like to do this summer/fall. If anyone would like to be my 'FTDSW' (friend to do stuff with), please let me know!

1. Disneyland
2. Yankees Vs. Angels in Anaheim
3. Getty Center - Brentwood AND Malibu
4. Catalina Island
5. Camping
6. Horseback Riding
7. Grunion Run
8. Sea World
9. Yosemite
10. King Sequoia
11. Napa Valley
12. Rosarito, Mexico
13. Grand Canyon (I love road trips!)
14. White Water Rafting

That's a start.

Proof that just once, once in a while, I (despite my total lack of fashion sense, fat ass, bad hair, bad makeup and total nerdliness) am on the CUTTING EDGE of coolness, for once in my life.

Bwaaahaaahaaahaaaa!

"Hollywood TrendWatch: Pug Abandonment Epidemic Forthcoming

Saturday's LAT postulated the imminent obsolescence of the chihuahua as the must-have accessory amongst celebrities who may or may not realize they're toting around a living thing in their purses, noting a high-profile surge in the popularity of pugs:

Packs of the little flat-faced canines are showing up in advertisements for Barneys New York, in the windows of Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, in the arms of celebrities such as Jessica Alba and Balthazar Getty and fashion designers Valentino and Tommy Hilfiger, and not incidentally, in this year's best of breed winner's circle at the Westminster Dog Show. Mimi la Rue even has her own loyal fans on Spelling's new VH1 show, "So NoTORIous."
The pug's place at the stiletto heels of fashion's discerning tastemakers has reaffirmed the ancient breed's everlasting appeal. It's as if fashion is saying, "Pugs, this is your moment -- and try not to drool."

If the Times piece isn't enough to extinguish the pug's ostensible hotness, being associated with Tori Spelling should almost certainly do the job. We expect that by the end of next week, pug early-adopters will be callously ejecting the dogs from their convertible Mercedes as they speed down Robertson Boulevard, leaving their suddenly unfashionable companions to be scooped up by the clot of trend-hungry Midwesterners in the line outside Kitson.

I don't know if anyone out that has discovered www.pinkisthenewblog.com, but it is absolutely fantastic. It's a cheesy, celebrity-whoring gossip site, but Trent, the blogger, is awesome. This is the pic he posted today. I love it!
