A tradition I'd like to break...

I've started a (real) new job exactly 5 times since graduating college. And 5 times, during the first week of each job, I've overslept one morning, having to come up with some stupid excuse involving car trouble. I'd like to break that little tradition.

Okay, so I'm having a minor case of the nerves. And there's nothing like starting a new job the same week that your live-in boyfriend's MOM and SISTER are visiting. Stress is such a miraculous thing.

I have the outfit picked out. Dark green velvet skirt, black lace top, black ankle strap heels. Got the Mike seal of approval, which worries me, as he commented on the conservative length of the skirt as compared with the more daring fabric choice, complemented only by the strong color of the shoes and shirt. I really really hope he only got that from my constant viewing of "Queer Eye."

There is something strange about the nervousness that you get when you undertake something new. There is nothing in this job that I can't do, or haven't done before. But my biggest fear is screwing up the phones and dropping a call.

I wish I could just skip this whole first week and start next week knowing everything I need to know.

Isn't that how it always is?
